Suet Balls for Birds:
For this recipie you will need:
  • ¼ cup of cornmeal
  • 2 cups of bread crumbs
  • ½ cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup of birdseed
  • ½ cup of brown sugar
  • ½ cup of grated cheese (eg. cheddar )
  • 1 cup of  assorted nuts
  • 3 chopped apples
  • 1 cup of raisins
  • 2 cups of peanut butter (preferably chunky)
  • 1 cup of Lard or Margerine

  • Mix all of the ingredients listed above together. If the mixture is too crumbly, add more lard, margerine or peanut butter to make it a bit more moist. If the mixture is too wet, add more bread crumbs to make the mixture firmer. Roll the mixture into small balls, wrap in cling film and put in the freezer. When they are frozen, take off the cling film and tie a string around the ball. Hang outside on a tree branch or in a bird feeder and let the birds enjoy!

How to make Gingerbread Men

. Ingredients:
     -250g plain flour
-75g butter.
-75g brown sugar.
-1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda.
-50g golden syrup.
-1 egg yolk.
-1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
-1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Method:

1.      Whisk the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
2.      Add the bicarbonate of soda, along with the golden syrup and the egg
         yolk. Mix.
3.      Add the flour and ginger and cinnamon into the bowl. Mix with
         wooden spoon.
4.      Roll into a ball and knead lightly until smooth.
5.      Wrap and place in fridge 30 minutes before using.
6.      Roll out dough. Use the gingerbread man cutter to cut out the shape
         of the gingerbread men
7.      Place on greased baking sheets.
8.      Bake at 180°C/350°F/Gas 4 for 10-12 minutes, until a golden
         brown colour.
9.      Place on a wire tray to cool.
10.  Decorate them with icing, sugar or chocolate to finish.
